Elbow Pain
Elbow pain
Elbow pain is often caused by overusing the joint and most commonly occurs in sports, hobbies and jobs that require repetitive wrist or arm movements. The most common elbow conditions we treat are:
- Tennis Elbow: (lateral epicondylitis) is a painful condition that occurs when tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm.
It is common in athletes but people whose jobs involve repetitive movements commonly suffer from tennis elbow too. This includes plumbers, painters, carpenters and butchers. The pain of tennis elbow occurs primarily where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to a bony bump on the outside of your elbow. Pain can also spread into your forearm and wrist.
- Golfer’s elbow: ( Medial epicondylitis) is a condition that is similar to tennis elbow but causes pain where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow. The pain might spread into your forearm and wrist. It is not limited to golfers. Tennis players and others who repeatedly use their wrists or clench their fingers can also develop golfers elbow. The pain of golfers elbow doesn’t have to keep you off the course or away from your favourite activities. Make sure you rest and ensure you receive the appropriate treatment and you’ll be back in the swing of things in no time!
- Throwing injuries (Similar to tennis players and golfers) which often result in sprains and strains.
